And then give us your views…
As a business owner, you take tough decisions every day; you are not alone. Discover how other business owners have faced up to the challenges of the last 18 months – and what they think of the Government response, the banks, the business climate and the future.
The Haines Watts national SME survey – Happiness and Heartbreak – was designed to help us better understand the day to day and strategic challenges faced by business owners. And the thought-provoking findings have now been published by Haines Watts and are now available for you to download.
Read how other business owners are coping with the current economic climate, who they turn to for advice and the highs and lows of running a business. Then tell us what you think by adding your comments and experiences below.
Happiness and Heartbreak focuses on the experience of business owners and uncovers many key findings including:
- 1 in 4 business owners are ‘currently’ being asked to provide personal guarantees to support their business
- Only 14% of business owners felt the VAT reduction had helped their business
- 68% of business owners have avoided making redundancies in the past year
Download the survey now and share your thoughts in the comments area below. This is your opportunity to get your voice heard.

I’d like a copy of the report too please.
Kenny Hannah, Tuesday 26 JulyIt looks like tough times ahead. We can only hope that the tax changes will be business friendly and that finally we might get rid of some of the government red tape.
Mike Fieldhouse, Thursday 13 MayPls send me a copy of the Report.
Ian Hannah, Tuesday 11 MayI.ve changed computer location and require a download of the survey….thanks
Richard Manton, Thursday 6 MayKeen to understand the issues facing businesses at the moment and how I can help and add value in this economic climate.
Bill Hunter, Thursday 6 MayThe section on training is very interesting – it does beg the question, what courses should universities offer to entrepreneurs.
Mike Fieldhouse, Wednesday 5 MayI love working for myself; but as the survey shows there is just too much reliance on ‘business’ to sort out tax collecting, social issues and so much else. And nobody is listening to this.
Steve Smith, Wednesday 5 MayThis is a good survey that tells it like it is. Whatever the politicians tell you, the banks aren’t lending and they’re squeezing smaller businesses to pay for their own mess.
Heather James, Wednesday 5 MayI think this report shows that Government are doing little that actually does help private businesses. Too much legislation gets in the way of us running our businesses day to day. The only reason we have survived the recession is down to the experience and skill of the owners of these businesses.
